Church
Woolston CE Primary is a one form entry primary school which has been judged as outstanding in its last RE and Ofsted inspections. The vast majority of our children come from the Woolston area and the school is usually oversubscribed. Over the years we have built up very strong links between the church and the school. The vicar is a regular visitor to the school, leading the school worship once a week and spending time in the classrooms with the children.
All the children go over to church once a term for a whole school Eucharist - with the permission of the Bishop the Y3 children are taught about the Eucharist so that they can then (if they choose) receive communion prior to being confirmed. Children in Y6 are given the opportunity to be confirmed - the preparation classes are held in the church after school. During the year the children lead assemblies in the church to commemorate special events e.g. harvest, Christmas and Holy Week. Our school choir joins the church congregation for the Christmas carol concert and also joins the different community groups for a community carol concert - both these events are held in the church. As a church school, members of the church community are represented as foundation governors on the governing body - the governors care deeply about the school and work incredibly hard to ensure the children in our care get the best possible opportunities during their time with us. Our mission statement is "working and learning together in the light of Jesus" - the close partnership we have with the church ensures that we fulfil our mission for the benefit of all the children in our care.
